The structure of ILEG and its legal operations are guided by its constitutive document, a Trust deed. The overall policy making body is the Board of Trustees composed of professionals with immense experience and expertise in the core field of the Institute for Law and Environmental Governance. Currently, there are five members in the Board.
The day to day management of the Institute is undertaken by the Secretariat which adopts a consultative and collegiate approach. The Institute has a team of professionals working as directors and programme officers responsible for specific thematic areas of focus. Finance, administration and support staff complete the secretariat.
ILEG believes in collaboration and capacity development. With regard to collaboration, the activities carried out by the Institute are done in conjunction with several other individuals as associates and in partnership with other institutions both government and civil society, as demonstrated in the section on activities and partnerships.
