Mr. Collins Odote, Chairman of the Board

Is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He received his LLB and LLM from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing PHD studies in environmental Law at the same University. His research interests are in the areas of regional development, governance,  international humanitarian law, property theory, sustainable development and management of natural resources.

Mr. Maurice Odhiambo Makoloo, Secretary to the Board

Is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He received his LLB and LLM from the University of Nairobi. He has done extensive research, written papers and has had discussions both locally and internationally on law and policy issues including related aspects of land, land management, and its general relations with environmental management. He serves as the Secretary to the Public Complaints Committee (on Environment) and is the Convenor of the Law Society’s of Kenya Environmental Law Committee.

Mr. Benson Owuor Ochieng, Treasurer to the Board

Is a lawyer, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, and a researcher with particular interest on legal, policy and institutional mechanisms for managing the environment and sustainable development. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master of Laws (LLM) degrees from the University of Nairobi. He is also legal practitioner.

Prof  Charles Okidi, Board Member

Is a Professor of Environmental Law, Director of Centre for Advanced Studies in Environmental Law and Policy (CASELAP) and Research Professor at the Institute for Development Studies, University of Nairobi.  He also teaches Environmental Law at the School of Law.  He is formerly a Senior Legal Officer and Task Manager of Project on Environmental Law and Institutions in Africa (PADELIA) at United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP).  He was Dean of the School of Environmental Studies and Professor of Environmental Law at Moi University. James P. Warburg Fellow of the University Consortium for World Order Studies 1974/75; In 1984, the Free University of Brussels and International Council of Environmental Law awarded him the Elizabeth Haub Prize in Environmental Law; Chief Shafi Lawal Edu Inaugural Lecturer at the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, 2003; Inaugural J. William Futrell Visiting Scholar at the Environmental Law Institute, Washington DC; For his role in providing leadership and scholarship in environmental law the  Center for Legal Studies of the Attorney-General’s Department in Rio de Janeiro which organized 4th International Congress on Environmental Law in his honour in May 2007; Member of IUCN Commission on Environmental Law and its Vice Chair from 1985-2002, Member of International Council of Environmental Law since 1977; Member of American Society of International Law 1971 to 2005; Member, Association of Environmental Law Lecturers in African Universities (ASSELLAU) from 2004;  Foundation Member of Governing Council of IUCN Academy of Environmental Law, 2005-2007; and Fellow of African Academy of Sciences and Kenya National Academy of Sciences, among others.
He has published and lectured widely on International and Comparative Environmental Law; Law of the Sea; International Water Law; and Capacity building and served as a consultant on these subjects to national, regional and global institutions.  Prof. Okidi is a graduate of Alaska Methodist University (1970) and received his Ph.D in public international law and environmental law from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in U.S.A. (1975).
